Seaton Valley Council came into being on 1 April 2009 as a result of the Local Government Reorganisation for Northumberland and the demise of Blyth Valley Borough Council.  In South East Northumberland eight new local councils were set up with Seaton Valley Council being one of them.

Seaton Valley Council serves the five villages of Holywell, New Hartley, Seaton Delaval, Seaton Sluice and Seghill.
